Week in Pictures #26 & #27

 Explore

L-R: view of the city skyline from Brighton Beach; bike ride break with Carli; I bought an advent calendar, in 20-degree heat... clever.

Sorry for the lack of blogging and having to group 2 weeks into one, bad Katy. The festive period caught up on me, but we are I am hopefully back on track! Here are some more snaps of what I have been up to lately.

Five Favourites

1. Adele

Seriously how amazing is Adele, though? She is slaying the scene. Her new album is, of course, amazing and I can totally see why it is smashing all the album record sales. I am straight up obsessed with her new single "When We Were Young" and I love everything about the video. Milla, the 2 and a half-year-old I love after, knows all the words to "Hello" and it is the cutest thing you will ever see! Oh and also Adele is finally going on tour and I GOT TICKETS!!!!! So, so excited, seeing her live is on my bucket list so I cannot wait for May 26th to see her at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow - going to cry all my eyeliner and fake lashes off fo sho.

December Goals

Okay, so how the hell is it December already? Time is going so fast it is freaking me out! This is one of my favourite months as I love everything about Christmas (minus when I was working in retail, Christmas is hell there). But being in the heat when everyone back in the UK is freezing their asses off still feels so strange. It does make things less Chrismassy so don't be too jealous of my sweet tan okay guys. Here goes another month and another stab at achieving my little goals, wish me luck.

ORGANISE TRIP BACK HOME

I am the worst at making decisions, it takes me a good 5 minutes to decide on what chocolate bar to get from the shops so big life decisions are a big NOPE. But I guess this is what being an adult is all about. I really need to start booking a flight to Dubai to meet my Mum mid-Feb (yeah that is happening and Dubai has like 6 Sephoras - buzzing)but I am thinking of doing a little solo trip beforehand. Now I was thinking New Zealand but it is proving to be a little pricey so my other option is Bali or just fly straight to Dubai from Melbourne... See too many options! I need to sit down and make a decision and just book a flight so there is no going back, otherwise I will never sort it out!

Week in Pictures #25

Buys

L-R: attempt at some nail art; sunglasses collection; best matte lip creams ever.

Give me all the nail polishes, sunglasses and matte lipsticks you have. I have been so good at not buying unnecessary clothing but cannot resist these guys. Seriously though I am obsessed with NYX Cosmetics, so affordable and I cannot stop wearing these lip creams, need more. Can't stop, won't stop.

Capsule Collection

All items from Cotton On, Glassons and H&M

I managed to resist the Black Friday online sales but hot damn the Cyber Monday got me hitting up all the sales. I purchased nearly all the items you see above... when it is 40% off though it is seriously rude not to just type in those bank details! Plus I have literally parted with half of my wardrobe as it either no longer fits or I no longer love it. So I have to restock my wardrobe with some cute new pieces right? And it all fits in with the summer capsule collection wardrobe I am curating (sorry UK people who ae freezing their asses off in the peak of winter)...

Book Club - "Why Not Me?" Mindy Kaling

Anyone who knows me knows I am a big Mindy Kaling fan. She is just so funny and honest and cool and I want to bebest friends pleaseeee. This book is a follow-up to her 2011 memoir Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? which I reviewed a little while back and you can read here. Mindy is such a #girlboss as she is not only an actress but a writer, producer and director of her own show, The Mindy Project, I mean c'mon how badass is that?!

Week in Pictures #24

Family

L-R: Charlotte's 10th birthday party; Milla's first dance concert; with my favourite boy.

Hectic weekend with my Aussie family. So proud of my little Milla for absolutely killing it at her first ballet show. She is the youngest one in the whole group and was honestly the best little mouse, I know I am biased but look at that weee face in that adorable costume - SO FREAKIN' CUTE.

November Goals

I can't begin to tell you how weird it is for the weather to be 20 plus degrees every day in November - so used to being back in Scotland freezing my arse off. Here are my current goals I am working on this month.

GET MY SHIT TOGETHER

The end of my time in Australia and my year of travels is quickly coming to an end which is such a mix of emotions! I am really looking forward to catching up with everyone back home but I am also going to miss carefree travel life and this amazing country so much. With time flying as fast as it is it also means I need to get my shit together and start looking into jobs back in the UK. Ugh honestly the thought of CVs and cover letters and all that shit is just the worst. I have made baby steps and downloaded Pages for my MacBook, so at least that is a start to fully fledged adulthood right?

Week in Pictures #23

Sunday

L-R: new sunglasses calls for a selfie; Fitzroy market; matching my dress with the graffiti, high levels of sass.

Had an ideal Sunday drinking and eating in the sun, visiting a market and hanging around the coolest Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy. Perfect place for some OOTD shots that I will share soon!

Week in Pictures #22

Weekend

L-R: not a bad spot for a drink; how cute are these takeaway coffee cups; rooftop drinking is my favourite.

Finally made it to a rooftop in Melbourne CBD. Was so cool to have a glass of champers and catch up with my lovely friend Hannah in the sun. It is always good to catch up with Scottish friends as they know how to hold their liquor!

Week in Pictures #21

Derby Day Spring Races
L-R: selfie with my fascinator; first glass of champagne with the girls; getting ready to watch the races; perfect picnic set up.

Slightly different take on Week in Pictures as I couldn't pick just three pictures from the Derby Day Races as there were too  many good ones so thought I would share this post instead. Spring Carnival is a Melbourne tradition and thousands of people go to the races to get dressed up, drink champagne and bet on some horses. It was so much fun to get dolled up and my host mum even treated me with a hairdressers appointment hence why my hair is sitting so fabulously. Plus she kitted me out with the dress, fascinator and clutch bag saving me a lot of dollar and making me feel so fancy on the day - thanks Suz!

Week in Pictures #20

Chill

L-R: seriously have so many pictures of my bike but so cute; my kind of smoothie, a coffee and banana smoothie; bike break selfie.

There is something to be said about carelessly cycling a cute bike around. So much freedom and adventure I love it. Think I may need to buy a cool second hand one for myself when I am back in the UK.

Week in Pictures #19

 Life

L-R: I carried a watermelon; having this on my doorstep is heaven; fave juice after a hard workout.

It's been another hot week in Melbs and I am proving to be the classic British person who complains when it's too cold and when too hot. Staying indoors under air con and eating all the watermelon is the only cure for 30 plus degree heat.

October Goals

Okay, how is it October 15th already?! Typical me putting my monthly goals out there halfway through the month...

EAT CLEAN

One of my September goals was to be more active and I did cycle and walk more, but I didn't do much yoga or running which is very bad of me. I really want to get a bit fitter, especially with the good weather and all the upcoming summer events. I think one of the main reasons I was neglecting working out is because I am always so exhausted and have no energy. This has to do with not getting enough sleep, running after 3 crazy kids and being lazy with my diet. So this month I am determined to eat more healthily. I stumbled across the fitness blog Gymbags & Gladrags which has an awesome free meal and workout planner. All you have to do is sign up to her blog via email and you download this super cute planner. This has really helped me to get motivated by writing down exactly what I am eating, it means I am less likely to eat junk and can keep track of what I have been eating and see what foods agree with my body and which ones don't! I am also cutting down on bread as it always makes me feel bloated so hopefully that will help with my fitness and diet too.

Week in Pictures #18

Life

L-R: feeling like Pharrell in my new sunhat; love this print; iced coffees all day long in this heat.

So I am still slightly undecided on this hat but I swear it looks better in real life, it is essential in the heat and I cba looking for a better option - okay, glad we cleared that up. I have been getting into making iced coffees and I didn't actually realise how easy it is, just add 2 tbsp of instant coffee one tbsp of sugar (I use raw sugar) add a splash of boiling water and just top it up with milk and lots of ice. Saving so much money making these at home instead of heading to a cafe every day!

Home

L-R: amazing postcards from my best friend; prescription chocolate (kind of); found this little card during a room clear out from my travel buddy.

I have been having a big clear out over the weekend. I have so many clothes that I don't like or don't fit and that I keep 'just in case'. Decided to jump on the minimalist bandwagon and have elimated 40 items from my wardrobe and I am feeling much better for it. Now when I open my wardrobe I don't groan and moan about having "nothing to wear". Capsule collections are the way forward people.

Weekend

L-R: one more month to summer; ticked this off the bucket list; lazy Sunday.

I had such a nice weekend hanging out with an awesome couple I know through friends from home. It is so good to get away for the weekend and just chill with some mates. Rach and I went to a cinema drive-in on Saturday night and I was literally so excited. I am a massive film geek and have been wanting to go to a drive-in movie ever since watching Grease at the tender age of 7. It felt so American eating popcorn and sipping on a can of pop in an old convertible car, I loved it. We actually got caught in a little lighting and thunder storm but it kind of added to the tense atmosphere of Black Mass, the new unrecognisable Johnny Depp picture about crime kingpin Jimmy Bulger. I love a bit of a gangster flick and Johnny is back on track with this flick, well worth a look. Plus all the Boston accents were on point (fun fact about me I do a sick Boston accent, it is my party trick).

Hope you all had a great weekend

Five Favourites

1. Birkenstocks

I have been in serious need of sturdy sandal since Spring hit Australia and I instantly thought of Birkenstocks. Mainly because my travel bud had a pair and wore them all the time, she did have like several plasters on at any given time as those son of bitches are tough to break in but all good sturdy shoes are. Now I was going to splash out $100 and order a pair but I found these pair of Birkenstock style sandals in the girls department at Kmart for $10. Yup for 10 BUCKS FROM THE KIDS SECTION. How'd you like them apples? Sorry got carried away on my own bargain hunting skills. These babies required no plasters and are super comfy and have been on my feet every day since I skipped out of the store with them.

Week in Pictures #17

Home

L-R: homemade ice lollies; bowling banter; frozen yoghurt ice lollies are life.

The weather has been getting pretty hot here, as I type this I am sitting in front of a fan as it is 35 degrees out... But I am looking hella brown so it is all worth the sunburn and sweatiness, right?

Book Club - "#GIRLBOSS" Sophia Amoruso

I have been waiting to read this book for what seems like forever and I finally got my mitts on it after a lengthy waiting list at the library. I can see why it was in such high demand because it really is a fantastic little book if you are looking for a bit of business/work motivation especially. This baby is full of advice on how to be a badass bitch or a #GIRLBOSS if you will. It is the story of Sophia Amoruso, CEO of cool girl fashion brand Nasty Gal who literally started from the bottom working in Subway and being a petty shoplifter but fast forward a few years and she is now at the helm of a multimillion-dollar company. If that doesn't inspire young women to go out and get shit done I don't know what will.

Fashion Week Street Style

Fashion week always comes and goes so quickly, like September is done and dusted already? How did that happen?! I was planning on keeping up to date and making a separate post for the rest of the fashion capital street styles like I did for NYC but time just flew by and before I know it the catwalk is closed until next season. So I just lumped London, Milan and Paris into one post so my bad. I do love a good collage as we all know by now so I love putting posts like this together.

Katy's Kitchen: Scrambled Eggs and Kale Salad

I have a confession to make, prior to a couple of weeks ago I had never cooked scrambled eggs before. Can't quite believe that statement myself. It wasn't till my host mum found this recipe on Pinterest meaning I had to give scrambled eggs a go, queue me Youtubing "how to make scrambled eggs'. Luckily scrambled eggs are actually super easy to make once you get the hang of it. I have never really been a fan of scrambled eggs as I hated the smell of it cooking when I was younger and my big brother had them like errday. If you are weird like me in this respect then I have an amazing solution on how to make non-smelly eggs - hallelujah. PS I am all about that kale life, seeing what all the fuss was about with this seriously good salad.

Book Club - "Wild" Cheryl Strayed

I have been recommending this book to anyone who will listen, I'm like Cady Heron from Mean Girls talking nonstop about Regina George.I really wish I had read it before going travelling as it is a really inspiring insight into a woman's solo hiking trek. Cheryl is recently divorced and still grieving the death of her mother and best friend. She wants to walk the Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of North America without any experience in long distance trekking to 'walk back to the woman her mother raised'. Cheryl spiralled downward after her mother's death seeking solace in no strings attached sex and heroine. I love how brutally honest Strayed is in this memoir and it totally makes the reader empathise and root for her character to kick ass on her trek of atonement.

Wish List #2

I was on Skype to my parents the other day and they were showing me my little room in their house that I haven't been in since January 8th and it is safe to say it's looking a lil dated. The green floral feature wallpaper I picked out at 15 isn't really me anymore so I have been looking at affordable ways to revamp my bedroom for when I come home. Naturally I went to my go-to affordable homeware sites of Ikea, H&M, Urban Outfitters and my new fave Oliver Bonas.

Week in Pictures #16

Weekend

L-R: my pretty bike; not a bad spot to stop off for lunch; #lunchgoals.

I have been loving the sunnier weather as it means I can just ride about on my bike all afternoon with no plans but me and the open road. Nothing better than having the wind in your hair and looking out at the amazing ocean down here along Beach Road.

Life

L-R: coffee at the beach; love Spring flowers; been busy crafting.

I have been making a few calligraphy prints lately and have been really enjoying doing something creative again. I am obsessed with all things watermelon so this print is very fitting (insert sassy information desk lady emoji).

Shop

L-R: went a little crazy on a make-up splurge; stole this idea from Pinterest; cute and much needed earrings.

Hit up Chadstone Mall at the weekend aka the biggest mall in the Southern Hemisphere so it is no wonder I spent wayyy more than I bargained for... my bad. I can't stop shopping for make-up at the minute, must be all the YouTube tutorial videos I am wtching. i can't wait to go on a huge make-up haul when I am back on British soil, seriously underestimated how great our high street is.

It seems it is the four month anniversary of my blog overall - yay me!

PS sorry on the slow blog front, the school holidays are taking its toll, juggling 3 kids and this is a lot harder than it sounds.

back soon

What I've Been Watching: Narcos

Netflix has seriously been upping its game with its Original Series from Orange is the New Black to House of Cards to Wet Hot American Summer to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, it has created binge watching and has redefined how this generation watches TV. Another series that caught my eye on Netflix is Narcos, not gonna lie the main thing that attracted me to this show is the ridiculously hot and talented Pedro Pascal aka Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones

Katy's Kitchen: Homemade Granola

I love Lily Pebbles YouTube channel and a while back she posted a granola recipe that I have been mean to try out for ages. It is so easy to make and you only need five core ingredients that will probably already be in your kitchen. Plus it is super healthy and really yummy!

Best Dressed at The Emmy's 2015

My fave looks from the Emmy's. Shout out to Maisie Williams for always having on point eyebrows and dressing age appropriate; love her fluffy shoes. Also Lady Gaga looks so beautiful when she tones it all down, can't wait to see her in American Horror Story. So glad that Game of Thrones swept the board at the awards, it is seriously one of, if not, the best TV ever made.

Week in Pictures #15

 Life

L-R: first bike ride in Melbourne; unreal beach weather; love these cute juices.

I had the best fresh Saturday eva, cycling with my girl Charlotte along Beach Road for a 20km ride. We stopped along the way at a farmer's market and it was full of good food and coffee, my two fave things in life. I am really enjoying not being hungover every weekend like I was in my student life. Getting up early means I get so much done and I feel so much better for it! Maybe I am finally getting my shit together and becoming one of those rare morning people.

Spotify Playlist #1

Hands up all the Spotify lovers out there? I signed up for their premium account a year ago to avoid the annoying ads and haven't looked back since. £9.99 a month is well worth the hassle of not having to download music or to buy it off the shamelessly overpriced songs on iTunes, 99p a song - blasphemy. The only downside of Spotify is that Taylor Swift is a money grabber and doesn't have her music on the site - boo you whore. Needless to say I splashed out and bought her album off iTunes and added to her millions, this makes me part of her squad now right? Anyway back to the whole point of this post, I am creating some sweet playlists of all my favourite songs of the minute so sit down with a nice cuppa for an hour and listen to these chilled out tunes.

New York Fashion Week Street Style

Despite having a fashion degree it seem that the older I get the less interest I seem to have in following or investing in trends so Fashion Week is never really a huge deal for me. Don't get me wrong I do love looking at all the beautiful models and clothing and I used to pour over the pages of Vogue and look at the deigns from all the fashion shows back in my teenage bedroom but now I find myself obsessing over the amazing street style photography. These are my favourite clippings from New York S/S 16 Fashion Week.

DIY: Blonde Hair Dye

I have cut my own hair countless of times mainly because I am one of those rare people who does not enjoy the hairdressers or the expense of it. So I decided to cut my own hair again(top tip  - split your dry hair into bunches to where you want your hair length to be and cut a straight line below the bobble with very sharp scissors) which actually turned out really well. I was after a straight, shoulder length blunt cut with a big side part a la Margot Robbie #girlcrush, and it was easy enough to achieve this myself as no layers are required! Me being me I didn't stop there and decided to finally take the plunge and dye my hair blonder. I have previously only had highlights in my hair so I have never used a home blonde dye kit...

New In: NYX Setting Spray

When I was browsing through my favourite Youtube channels a Target Make-Up Haul from Lo Bosworth (yes that Lo, I really wanna go watch The Hills for the millionth time now too) and she raved about how good this NYX Setting Spray is. I have been on the lookout for a setting spray and had set my sights on Urban Decay's Up All Night Spray but I couldn't part with the money! Luckily NYX's very similar product is much kinder on the bank balance. Plus they have a matte and a dewy finish setting spray. I was after the matte version but it is sold out in every Target I visit but I actually really like the dewy finish as it gives the illusion of healthy, glowing skin.

This is before applying the setting spray and you can see my face isn't all that dewy naturally as I have a combination of oily and dry skin. All you need is a few sprays (I normally do four) and you are good to go.

Below is the results of the setting spray's lasting power throught the day which I am actually pretty impressed with. By the end of the day my make-up was still largely in place and I still had a little glow in my skin. Granted it didn't keep my lipstick in place but I find eating and drinking usually removes it from my lips pretty easily so we can't blame it for that.
I am still on the hunt for the matte finish spray also as I think it will hold up better than the dewy version when the really hot weather hits Melbourne!

I would definitely recommend this product and it has become a part of my daily make-up routine. It is especially good for stopping your mascara from flaking below your eyes which happened to me aww the time, panda eyes is not a good look at all.

Grab yours online or from Target stores

Week in Pictures #14

Life

L-R: love the slightly creepy entrance to Luna Park; sunbathing amongst the palm trees at St Kilda; Boost juice in the sun.

Finally the weather picked up this weekend and its 26 degrees right now as I type this. I am a tad sweaty and a tad burnt but it is all worth it. I had an ideal Sunday meeting up with my old flatmate from first year halls. Major blast from the past, it was so nice to catch up and give her lots of pointers for her trip up the east coast of Australia. Isla you are going to have a great time and massive kudos for doing it alone #GIRLBOSS.

Katy's Kitchen: Banana Oat Bites

I have been trying out a few healthy snacky recipes recently and thought I would share my efforts. These little balls of goodness (lets be mature, I can hear you sniggering) are super quick and easy to make but yes I still managed to burn them slightly... I blame the oven.

What's In My Bag

Is it just me who loves snooping in people's bags? I like to see what people lug around on a day to day basis. My travel mate Lianne carries everything but the kitchen sink in her handbag but mine is usually a very concise affair. These are the essentials that I always carry in my bag and couldn't be without!

New In: 90's Denim Jacket

ASOS Denim Jacket

I have been on the hunt for a reasonably priced denim jacket for ages and I seemed to totally forget about little, old trusty ASOS. There are so many affordable denim jackets on their site that it was a struggle to pick which one to buy! I knew I was after a 90s oversize fit in a light denim colour so this one is a dream, plus the rip detailing is an added bonus; who doesn't love ripped denim at the mo?

Week in Pictures #13

Wear

L-R: loving the 70's vine fashion atm; go to casual outfit; another day, another striped top.

Can't. Stop. Buying. Clothes. I blame all the current trends for being so on point, especially the 70's style that is in right now. I love all the hippie prints and the floaty styles - just take my money already! And a girl can't have enough classic breton stripe tops in her wardrobe - do I hear an ahem?

Five Favourites

1. DENIM JACKET

I love reading Cupcakes and Cashmere's Five Things posts so this is my humble spin on hers! These are the five things I can't get enough of at the minute. First up is this amazeballs 90's-esque denim jacket from ASOS. Now I won't go on too long about my love for this as I have a little blog post dedicated to it but for the grand total of $60ish(£30ish) this was a total steal! I have always loved the grunge look with lots of rips, tartan, leather and denim - all the feels. I am having a bit of a love affair with denim atm, I used to not own a single pair of jeans now I own 7 and counting - YOU'VE CHANGEDDD.

Katy's Kitchen: Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Firstly lets address the elephant in the room, no these are not a replica of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups at all because I am not a dab hand in the kitchen and nothing can be as good as those little gems but these little beauties are wayyy healthier and super simple to make. Secondly yes I am calling my recipes Katy's Kitchen because this girl can't resist some shit hot alliteration.

September Goals

I saw Kate from Gh0stparties (blog goals) uploadeds a monthly post of what she wants to achieve and thought I would copy the idea to try and get me motivated! So here are the five things I want tackle to this September.

Week in Pictures #12

 Blog

L-R: finished this great read (book review coming soon); eyes peeled for What's In My Bag post this week; still reading this motivational gem, #GIRLBOSS in the making here.

I have been getting back into reading regularly and have been loving it, much better for my eyes and headaches than those late night Netflix binges! I have been slacking on the ole blogging front (again) but there is light at the end of the tunnel as I have lots of upcoming posts, I just need to finally get put some words together. Writer's block is real people.

Week in Pictures #11

 Eat

L-R: amazing fresh salad at Queen Vic Market; the best hot doughnuts in the whole of Melbourne; finally visited this ice cream shop in Fitzroy.

I had a few hours to kill on Sunday and decided to head to the market for some grub and boy am I glad I did. The sun was shining, I had some yummy food and listened to an awesome band busking - happy Sunday.

Week in Pictures #10

Life

L-R: said goodbye to this beauty; scenic views of Philip Island; loe curling up with this book.

Another chilled week was had, our time dogsitting Tara came to an end and although she could be a pain in the arse (forever chasing cats *face palm*) she will be missed! We headed to Philip Island at the weekend and it was such a nice little seaside town and had an amazingggg pizza place, pizza is BAE. I have been loving reading Wild so far, can't wait to get to the end and finally watch the film now!

Book Club - "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" Mindy Kaling

Confession time I loved this little gem of a read, possibly even more so than Amy Poehler and Tina Fey's offerings. I am such a big fan of Mindy Kaling from her work on The Office US and of course The Mindy Project so I had high hopes for this autobiography and I was not disappointed. It was funny, heart warming and real just like the awesomely adorable author.

New In: Sephora Splurge

So Sydney has a Sephora and I am surprised I managed to control myself and only buy three things. I am actually regretting not picking up more especially Urban Decay's Makeup Setting Spray and Eyeshadow Primer Potion, think I have been taking it for granted that Urban Decay is so readily available in the UK, should have snapped these babies up. Here are the Sephora products I did pick up...
